Back, whew!

Been on the road the past three weeks. Shot the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Raton, NM then trucked on up to Wisconsin to help out my Dad.

Took the Suburban, packed to the gills with shooting euipment and ammo, which left just enough room for a couple weeks worth of clothes. Covered about 6,000 miles round trip and only had one mechanical set back. Just as we rolled into Raton, 1200 miles into the trip, the AC stopped blowing. I figured the altitude and humidity cause the evap to freeze. Once things thawed, the AC blew but the compressor was knocking. Finished the week at altitude and the drive to Wisconsin without AC, not a fun drive through Nebraska (100+*).

One night in Raton, we did the local drive. Saw 65 Elk, the last after sunset, a beautiful Royal Bull right off the side of the road. Too little light to get a picture though. Once I have a little time I will look through the digital camera and see what is worthy of sharing.

Once in Wisconsin, I had the AC checked out and sure enough the compressor was on the verge of grenading. I got it shut down in time so that all that was needed was a compressor and drier. The system was flushed to ensure no schrapnel came out. Total repair was way more than I'm used to paying, but a deal at $900 (only 3 hours labor @ $60). AC works great again.

We got home late Friday evening, just in time to unload and reload the Suburban for a short road trip to, you guessed, shoot another match. The past two nights have been spent playing catch up on all the postings, the price I pay for not seeing a computer for 3 weeks (that and now with over 13K members, there are a lot of posts to go through).
