im BACK!

good day to all! i've just returned from my 3 month sailing voyage abroad. being back is quite the change in lifestyle - being an american again, living on land, so on and so forth, but it feels good to be back.

ive missed you all and look forward to being active here again. of course, im thrilled to be reunited with my lovely benz and loved my ignaugural drive yesterday afternoon.

anyways here are a couple photos.

it's good to be back

above, i am sailing away from the most amazing place on earth - in my opinion - and like all fairy tale places, it doesn't come easy- quite an adventure to get and stay there - SABA, a dutch island in the caribbean with only 1,200 inhabitants

below, my trusty monohull - a 50ft raised salon - heeling over in a nice wind.

cheers
eric

Wow, that's quite the vacation, bro! Post more pix when you can! ...and welcome back!

I've been in and out of touch here myself, still very busy with the band...We came back from Australia recently, and that was an awesome trip...see the "doubledrive" thread for some pictures.

So give us more detail...where did you sail to?

Mike

thanks for the note mike!

ive got a million or so pictures. the first 3 months was my job- teaching sailing and scuba to teenagers. then the last week i brought my parents and sister down for a week to show them around.

i sailed the french west indies, the lesser antilles, the dutch west indies, the eastern caribbean, the leeward isalnds, and the windward islands. basically ---- that's teh whole arc of islands from st. martin to trinidad - 1,500 miles

it was a blast!

your band really seems to have taken off! that's awesome that you get to travel a lot. i love traveling and feel as though being abroad is sobering and healthy for your mind.

Man! Rough life, huh?!
My brothers' old high school buddy did a year long world cruise back in the early 80's in his sail boat. Was fun to get his monthly newsletter and read about his adventures.
Glad you're back safe!

I have to ask Is the flag back aft in the second picture the French flag or the Tango code flag?

Just wondering, thanks

Welcome back! Sounds like a fun trip! I have to say, though, that while sailboats are nice, I still prefer having a good diesel under me...don't have to worry about propulsion when the wind dies However, the boat I'm working with now is smaller than yours...40' admiral's gig (the "old" boat was an 82' ex-Coast Guard cutter)...

Warden! awesome, do you have any pictures of your cutter? id love to see it!!!

this sailboat had a nice nice NICE beefy turbo charged diesel Yanmar inboard in it. cranked out 95 HP which is impressive for a boat like that. maxed out at about 3,500 rpm. i really like Yanmars and Nanni's.

oh yea, it's the French flag, not the tango. The boat is registered in Pointe-A-Pitre Guadelope, soon to be Fort De France, Martinique. both french islands.

cheers

eric

Yes, actually, I do. This is probably the best picture I have of her. I was the 2nd engineering officer on that, but am leaving that because another unit needs me, so I've become the executive officer on this boat. This is with a volunteer youth organization (Sea Scouting, a division of BSA) that I started out as a crew member on when I was 12 (this November will mark my 10th year in the program).

Nice! You can have some fun with that.

Ah, okay...makes sense. I've heard of both of those islands, back in French class when I was in high school...didn't realize that that was where you started out. Cool!
