Question I have a weird question for you guys!

OK...consider this...let's just say a house in one of the most desirable/expensive neighborhoods in your city comes onto the market priced at 3/5 the value of other comparable homes in the same area...the reason for the house's low asking price is because around seven years ago, the house was occupied by a middle-aged woman who was stabbed to death in the walk-in closet of the master bedroom...her daughter subsequently found her mother lying on the blood-soaked carpet when she got home from school...the house has exchanged hands several times over the years, but nobody seems to want to settle down in the house...would YOU buy this house and live in it? Why? Do you believe in ghosts?

That's something I've thought about as I watch these murder-solving programs on Discovery, ect. Would I buy a house that a brutal killing had taken place in? I'm not superstitous at all, and don't put any truck in these ghost stories and all. But it WOULD be a bit creepy living in a house with that kind of history.

Whether to buy or not depends on your reason for doing so. If you expect to resell it, forget that for reasons stated above. But if you are not creeped out by the murder want to buy it for yourself to live there read on.

Renowned psychic Sylvia Brown addressed the issue of ghosts on an episode of the Montel Williams show that I saw a few years ago. What she said to do was call the ghost by first and last name, and tell them to go to the light. So, if you know the murdered woman's full name, this could become quite a bargain for you.

It's more effective if you have the theme to the "Twilight Zone" playing in the background too

My only concern would be in removing any particularly knotty blood stains and such, since I'm firmly convinced there is no such thing as ghosts. I think the notoriety would make for some interesting conversations in general, and perhaps I would even throw a party with a theme echoing the gruesome circumstances of the murder(s).

no no...I was never in the market for a house...I just kept seein' the house for sale and the price dropping...I don't see the house listed on the market anymore...so I assume it has been sold...I heard through the grapevine that the house was actually sold once before, and a deposit was made...but the agent did not tell the buyer that a murder happened in the house...the buyer learned it from a friend, was furious at the agent, and took the deposit back...I hope the current buyer knows about it also...if I were buying a house, I would at least want some knowledge of the history...

I call it finding a BARGAIN!!!

A history like that is what you make of it, and your propensity to dwell on that situation. Personally, it wouldn't bother me a bit. Bad things happen, and there won't be much of anything that can be done to change that fact.

My mother 84, lives alone in a house she swears is haunted. Two of my sisters and some of their friends think its haunted, too.

I lived there for about 5 years back in the 1960's and I never experienced ANYTHING, except some peculiar visions when under the influence of....nevermind, that wasn't the house.

I have also known people who have actually seen UFO's.

Now people, I want to see a dang ghost, and I'll risk the anal probe treatment for a saucer ride. It just ain't happening.

Narwhal, if you're able to visit this winter, you'll find out, Bwah-hah-hah!

BTW, spousette and I were reading an alternative newspaper from a nearby city recently and saw that the monthly alien abduction meeting was to take place at a restaurant. We were thinking it would be really interesting to attend. Okay, so I'm a coward, we didn't go. Any of you folks ever been abducted by aliens? Just curious. Sometimes I think my wife would swear she married one.

Well get a home inspection, and before you even do that, go hit the county assessor. I don't know how it's done in .ca, but over here the assessor comes around every few years and tells you how much you have to pay in taxes based on the assessed value of the house. This is normally broken down into the value of land, and the value of the house.

The house may have chronic problems like a leaky roof, perpetually damp basement, cracked footing, or something like that. The cracked footing is pretty serious and so is the perpetually damp basement. Either one may be the cause of it.

If you don't find anything wrong with the house structurally, then it's really possible that the stigma behind the murder is keeping the price down.

I don't see a need to disclose that there had been a murder. I don't think it should affect the title either, so unless it's a small town where everyone knows what happened, and there's nothing structurally wrong with it, then it looks like a bargain.
