Hello!

I've taken to creating mp3 files from CD's and putting them on a self-made CD so I can pick what order the songs go in and whatnot. However, to do it "right", it's necessary to make each song the same volume as the others (not all CD's are created equal; it gets really annoying when one song comes on that's a lot quieter or louder than the rest of the CD), and I also like to trim the dead space off of the beginning and the end of each song in order to make for a short transition between songs.

I've been using Voyetra Audiostation 32, and was happy with its capabilities, but as of late I've been having problems with it locking up while trying to edit a song. The program's designed to handle WAV files, and I've been converting the files, but I think the program's having problems with the WAV files being so big. I tried a trial version of a newer version of Voyetra (I think it's the newest version that's still W98 compatible), and had the same problem. I also tried a free program called Audacity, but the program was ridden with bugs and didn't have the "normalization" feature to make each song the same volume.

So, I'm looking for a new editor. I'm okay with continuing to edit the files as WAV files, providing that whatever program can handle a big file ( >50MB in most cases), and would also accept a program that could edit the files as mp3's. Does anyone have a suggestion on what program to go with?
