California election

Anybody out there paying attention to the election news coming out of California? I'm talking about the recall of Gov. Davis and the Arnold news. Friends who live elsewhere in the U.S. think it's all kind of funny. Would you all care to opine? (As California goes, so goes the nation.)

Recall more politicians just to remind them who's in charge. (Hint, us!)

Surely one of two things will happen shortly after the election for recalling the governor of California:

1) The recall law will be changed to have a more demanding requirement in signatures and money.

or,

2) The new governor (should the recall succeed) will be immediately recalled.

That would make the recall a, uh, total recall.

Louisianans and Floridians and Chicagoans wake-up every day and thank God for California. It could only be better if Californians are forced into endlessly recounting and interpreting chads and such.

A decade ago we in Louisiana reached an unmatched level of political depravity. We had a crooked-lawyer, womanizing high-stakes gambler and politician -- Edwin Edwards; running against a more-or-less ex-clansman. Folks had bumper stickers printed for the run-off: "Vote for the Lizard Not the Wizard"; "Vote for the Crook, its Important".

When teh Florida election came along Louisianans laughed that at least half of the voting machines indicated Edwin Edwards won. Thank you Florida, for relieving us of the ignoble position of worst electoral process in the nation.

Now California bumps us up to second runner-up. Oh sweet joy!

I agree with that completely. The only problem is that a group of idiots (Larry Flint, Gary Coleman, etc) decided to make a big joke of it. In fact, I heard somewhere that Gray Davis helped the other 130 or so "minor" candidates in order to make people believe that it was a joke, so that they would all vote no.

Gray Davis is a scumbag who "won" by a pure fluke (if the Republicans had put a decent candidate out, he would have lost badly, and he knows it), and needs to be removed from office. I hope this sets a precedent...maybe it'll teach politicians that they are to be held accountable.

Just my $.02...

This recall is a joke.

The fact is, people are trying to shave off a year more of Davis's control. He is accused of financially mis-managing California, but really, this recall, should it succeed, will cost California far more fiscal damage than Davis ever had.

I dont particurally like Davis. He is a softie, IMO. But this election, regardless of who wins, will cost us a lot of money.

Arnold is a moron. He is a womanizing, energy whore, trash talking, gang banging candidate with no real political experience. I do support his policies of gun control, education and woman's choice, though.

Of all the candidates, I like the green party's Camajo most. He is very honest, intellegent, and supports the values I believe in. One thing is for sure, this election is the closest thing to democracy we have had in awhile. By far the best time to nominate an independant.

Aw don't worry, you can always count chads until you get a result you like. Learn from what otehrs have done.

BTW, in Louisiana we're going to have a run-off between candidates for governor: a pro-life Cajun democrat woman and a 30-something republican man whose parents emigrated from India. Both seem like hard-working, dedicated public servants. We can't lose, regardless of who wins. Jealous?

PS What is this world coming to: A pro-life Democratic female and an ethnic minority Republican? I lost my paradigm through a crack in time.
