What happens to old posts?

I was searching the site today. One post I opened had a link to an earlier post that was supposed to be the definitive answer to the question. When I tried to open the link, it was gone.
How long do posts stay on the site? Are all posts removed or just some? Is there a place to search for posts that have been removed?

Can you post a link to the thread with the broken link?
It's a little unusual for that to happen. One example on how this can happen is the person who started the thread may have deleted post #1 which bring down the whole thread. There was that one guy, i hope I am right, I think it was TXBill(?) who asked the webmaster (Bill Wood) to delete ALL of his posts for some odd reason, so if that thread was created by TXBill, it's just gone....deleted. Or maybe the moderator of that particular forum deleted the thread? (Moderators can only "mess" with their own forum, BTW). Myself I normally only delete threads which have some time element involved, like a get-together for example which is over, and also posts about items for sale on EBay, after the auction is done. I'll also occasionally see a thread started on the forum I moderate which seems to be more appropriate in another forum, especially cars and parts for sale.

OK Kerry, I asked Bill Wood if he has time to check it out.
I wouldn't get too excited about actually seeing the missing thread again, but maybe Bill will at least be able to explain what happened to it. These things can happen.

More than likely this thread was deleted when the original poster asked that all of his threads be deleted.

I remember that thread. I'm pretty sure it was started by TXBill, and his many contributions to Mercedesshop are all gone.

The thread referred to the job that TCane did on his W123, and it was quite extensive. He basically lined the entire engine bay with insulation. The pictures of it were incredible. Unfortunately TCane is gone from the board as well. Must be a Texas thing.

However, all is not lost! I do know that Leathermang did some of the actual sewing on the project, so he may be able to tell you more about what TCane did. You can contact him by searching for member name "Leathermang."
