Check out my new custom german plate.

It is a real plate and as you can see it is reflective as well. It came with a mounting bracket so there are no exposed screws or bolts. You can get one too if you want.

A great guy named Alex Cupini in Germany makes them. Here is his website where you can get more info. They are around $16 i think. He's very friendly.

I didn't want something that is obviously a vanity plate, but still something meaningful. can you guess what it means?

It says I think, Sweet W123 turbo diesel. Nice plate I think I'll get one soon. Maybe
C-L 126 SD or
F-T 560 SC

S = Stuttgart - where the car was made
w123 = chassis number
TD = model (touring diesel)

In VA, don't you have to have 2 state plates on the car? Here in NJ you do. Also, the "T" models were/are made in Bremen, Germany. I don't know if that is a "suburb" of Stuttgart or not.

Ah, too bad he can't replicate the seals that go after the first letter or two. I had this plate on my old W123, and the interesting thing is, it was a REAL plate. Note the seals! :D

It is a fake.

First of all: the T was made in Bremen which ist about 700 km north of Stuttgart (close to the north sea coast)


At the euro-style number plates with the blue field there is no hyphen between the first letters and the numbers.
It would read S W 123 TD instead of S - W 123 TD (except of a few early number plates in distric Potsdam and Berlin)

With one exception there are newer any letters after the number (the exception would be the letter "H" for historic cars older than 30 years)

So you have to delete the "TD" altogether.

The correct plate would read something like
S W 123
S MY 123
S TD 123
S TD 300

New plates are about 25 Euro a pair. The seals are official, they only can be faked by scanning them.

It even got beaten up in the right amount :)
The pre euro-plates without the blue field did have the hyphen, but at the old plates the letters "B", "Y" and "E" would be forbidden, because they could be understood as "8", "V" or "8".

BTW: Bremen would be HB instead for the S for Stuttgart (HB stands for "Hansestadt Bremen")

So the best vanity plate for a station waggon would be

HB S 123

original 79 Plate. My uncle had it on his Audi 80.

Speaking of Euro plates, maybe somebody will know where mine came from?

I don't have a good pic, but the number is CHAM-287

Would anyone happen to know where I could find an Austrian plate for sale? I found one site that had a "Wien" plate (with its seal or coat of arms or whatever it is), but I was looking for one with either Tirol or Kärnten on it. Any ideas?
