Good condition? Miles?

I'm sure you will love this car! The V126 is one of the safest, most beautiful, reliable cars MB ever made. I own and love my 1989 420 SEL and will keep it forever! Have a good mechanic look at the cam chain rail guides as this is the only weak point on this model. You will like this site.> www.geocities.com/w126s

...and camshafts. That kept me from buying a 560SEC awhile ago. The potential problems/high cost I heard about replacing a worn cams outweighed the low price of the car(the car was advertised as needing new cams). I inquired about this up at the tech forum, and got a more than one response to this issue, so I know it's a valid concern. But I guess it's supposed to be only a problem with the earlier 560 engines, whatever that means.

I Test Drove it

and it was W O N D E R F U L, he is wanting $7K but I could tell he would back off of that, it has all records stamped up to date and new tires, the paint is Garaged Great, Dark Blue with Palamino interior, one minor ding that could be punched out at the fender. The engine sounded great, everything worked on the car. I could not offer over $6K, I am still thinking about it. I really am tired of the mellow yellow interior, as in my 300D..so that was the big draw back..I know you can find one cheeper on Ebay but you have to go a 1000 miles to get it..

he said it will get 25 mpg on the highway is this correct?? I dont think so..

I got 22 and 21 on consecutive interstate tanks. 90+degree day and full air. Only long dance we've had so far. Normal city/country driving i get 15-16. Gentle acceleration does net seem to improve mileage (or is that an excuse?) Change the chain and rails, she'll treat you nice.

Thats not too bad

I could live with 20+ MPG on the highway, my wife would drive the car, so just local driving and some long trips, what size tank does the 560 have??

I think my 300SEL has the same tank as the 560... which is 23.5 gallons including reserve.

Labor of love

I don't even want to total my receipts, but what i've learned by trying and through this group has been worth it. And, i've got the 560 to boot!! Going to start on head gaskets (and perhaps valves?) later today. My 17 yr old son will handle the wrenches as i had shoulder surgery recently--priceless time together!! Best over priced purchase i've ever made.

116,000. The left head on mine went from weeping to real tears and no compression. Lucked out and got gasket sets for both sides for $54 shipped on ebay. Shop in Nebraska had a customer back out, and they were stuck with parts. No problems on the right side, but if the left goes well, we'll go for both while the intake manifold is off. Will probably take a few weeks to finish since son works most nights and i work days. Got a good start tonight, way fun.
