W123 Front Height
Hello again Folks,
Could anyone out there with a W123 estate, tell me what their front suspension height is measured from the centre of the wheel to the centre of the wheel arch edge. Some time ago I refurbished my front suspension and refitted it back according to the book, delaying tightening of swinging arm bolts until the full weight was on the car. At that time the car did not have it's front wings fitted, but when I latter fitted the wings the gap between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch looked excesive. So I rechecked the suspension, and even loosened all bolts and bounced the suspension to get it to settle lower, all to no avail,I've checked with Mercedes to find out whether there is a measurement but they say they dont have one, as the front suspension is unadjusable. The measurement on mine is 17.75inches or 450mm. David |

I would first drive the car, to let the suspension settle in. My car's height is always sitting high after jack it up. I'll check my TD. You want from the center of the Mercedes star in the rim to the fender lip? I just checked and mine measured 15 1/2 inches.

Hello Rickjordan,
Thankyou for your reply, it sounds as though mine is not quite as far out as I thought it was, a case of more optical than physical. The measurement you took was the right one which shows mine is only 2.25inches high, so I will take your advice and wait until I've driven her and see if she settles, (which will be a few months yet as there is still plenty to do). You may also notice that the wheel is sitting at a funny angle. Again, this will sort itself out once you have driven the car. BTW which "Estate" do you have. Mine is a diesel which is heavier in the front, which may in turn give it a different ride height.

Hello again Rickjordan,
I havn't noticed the wheel angle , but then I havn't looked for it. My engine is a 2.3 straight four petrol which will be quite a bit lighter than your diesel, plus the fact that at the moment, being in the middle of a full restoration, there is no radiator and therfore no coolant plus no oil, engine or gearbox. All this will add up to a big difference in weight. David |

If you are using OEM parts, there shouldn't be change from stock. Put the car all back together, drive it, then see how everything sits.

Hello Rickjordan,
All the replacement parts used were supplied by my local MB dealer. So I will now have to wait a few months until the restoration is complete and see how she sits.If that does not resolve the problem I shall post another post at that time, so as they say" watch this space". Thankyou for all your help David |
