how to find the oldest post?
In the pursuit of trivia, I'm trying to find the oldest post in the archives. I see that the earliest members signed up in March 99. I looked up threads they contributed to but the earliest post I see is dated June 99. Maybe it's because threads can be sorted by last post date but not by first post date.
Anyone know how to find the oldest post without going through each thread Donnie contributed to? Thanks, Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

Go to the Tech Help section and scroll to the bottom of the page. There you'll find options for listing the threads. Simply ask for the threads sorted in ascending order, and get all of them from "the beginning."
Here's an interesting one: New Software. I was here during those early days, but didn't register until June when I needed to ask a question. At that time, it only took a few minutes to read every post every day. I can't do that any more, so have to concentrate on my favorite forum - Diesel Discussion. It's may also be interesting to note that there were no separate sections in the early days. Everything was in one place. When the split took place, Bill and Donnie wanted to have a section for discussing "Is Mercedes too troublesome", "Is there a forum like this for Lexus", and other stuff like that. They never planned for the Open Discussion section to become what it has. Just look at the description for Open Discussion - "Discuss anything you want to here including cars other than Mercedes." It was supposed to be all car related, and for a while it was. Want to know when the split took place? Use the technique described above on any of the other sections.

He's still around, but he leaves most of the forum stuff to others.
