I don't like anybody having the power of life and death over others. That being said, its not a binary selection--there are lots of gradations. This allows for a spectrum of preferences.

Clinton's big failing was not whether or not he could pull the trigger. His was being unable to rally a majority for anything more than re-election. In retrospect, he missed the boat early in his presidency by not going after Bin Laden's group following Twin Towers #1. His approach was half-measures--bomb a little and try diplomacy here and there. He did his best to make that two-pronged half measured approach work. I guess it had to be tried, but it was an obvious, total failure.

Lest you think I was just bragging, I'm referring to my youth when I wasn't too discriminating. Not too many treasured prizes in that grab bag. Been with the current wife for over a decade now.

I still think the U.S. needs to get off the repeating policy loop that sees military action as steps one or two in any real or perceived conflict. Clinton wasn't much different than any other prez in that regard. The Bush Administration just fabricates more elaborate justifications for a fireworks display than most of his predecessors, with the possible exceptions of "Remember the Maine! and the Gulf of Tonkin 'incident'--lots of imagination in that bunch.

And when it comes to politicians, my gut-feelings have usually been correct. Rarely have my "guts" led me astray in politics, but I still seek out facts and figures before acting on it.

I hate the reference to Dean and "the button". It is so rediculous... does anyone actually think that Howard Dean is going to end the world by getting angry and nuking someone? Given Bush's endless support of aggressive war, I would be much more leary of his temperment as commander-in-chief.

I agree that Howie got a little out of control and made a strange noise, but riling up the crowd is not anything new to Howard Dean and this incident was just his frustration with the other demos coming to fruition.

The good news in all of this is that John Edwards is emerging as a real threat to win the nomination... he's got virtually the same message as Dean except its delivered in a slicker and less rediculous package... I'll take him over (bore me) Kerry any day.

John Edwards, a southern lawyer, is a really bright, articulate and handsome guy. This is just the combination to woo southern voters into his camp if he can walk the delicate line with northern liberal Democrats of moderately pro-choice and fiscally responsible with a projected strength. Reminds me of somebody......

Edwin's wandering ways were never denied by him. To which he alluded when asked about the former presidents, uh, difficulties. His downfall was more common, too--greed.

But your comment got me thinking, is there something about smooth talking southern lawyers that charms people out of their minds?

Perhaps we should ask a MS lawyer who subscribes here.....

Whatever...If that's what you want to call it...

I just know that my "gut" has been highly accurate over the years, in many different situations, good, bad, and neutral. I've learned to trust my "prejudices", I guess. :p
