whatever happened to "fun" here in OD ???
1- normal winter blahs?
2- cyclical participant turnover? 3- current issues? 4- TXBill's apparent lobatomy? 5- simply no more fun to be had? 6- other? |

Too much putting the world to rights crap. I'm as guilty as any. Sorry.
Ok I have a suggestion. What's your favourite TV comedy series? I have a couple or three.. 'Father Ted' 'Fawlty Towers' 'Blackadder' Do/did you get this stuff in the US? If not you're missing out.

W126, I think the show is Keeping Up Appearances. It drives me nuts, but my dad likes it for some strange reason.
My wife and I loved the first season of Scrubs. Everybody Loves Raymond is OK too. The new show with Charlie Sheen seems fun. They're not Fawlty Towers, but I've seen each Fawlty Towers episode about 10 times each. Funny how the hotel name would seem to read something different each time. |

B., - Red Dwarf is terrific (mostly)!
See some Father Ted if you can. It's brilliant, especially if you are (or know) a catholic. It's a mixture of pretty cutting satire and slapstic. They couldn't film it in preist-ridden Ireland, had to come to Scotland. The first blackadder was pisspoor, but the others just got better. I hear you guys tend to like Benny Hill. Shame on you! I used to watch Cheers, pretty good. Most of the other US stuff I don't find funny, especially the 'Friends' genre.

I cannot stand "Freinds", though my 22 yr-old daughter loves it. I detect a generational difference.
Though I do think that David Schwimmer (sp?) is way, way under-rated. His change from dumb-ass comedy cardboard persona was transformed into a dangerous martinet ("Band of Brothers"). That was good acting. He may have ability like Tom Hanks. That's almost sacrilege, forget I said it. Benny Hill is okay in small doses for an occasional goof. I tire of him quickly and for long spells of recovery. Anybody seen the trailers for, "Monster". Charliz Theron's transformation is nearly miraculous. I'd never pictured her for that kind of role and can't wait to see the movie. I really liked that British detective series starring Helen Mirren. Don't recall the name of the series, but I loved her character. Actually, I've had a thing for Ms Mirren since Diana Rigg's version of "Midsummer's Night Dream." In the 60's or early 70's, I think. Helen, I'm here for you, luv. Botnst |

People with good humor are nearing the top of the endangered species list.
I have always been a prank puller not all of which were high camp ,such as bring a large pot of coyote stew to a potluck and faking heart atacks at parties.have always wanted to build a giant slingshot and I mean GIANT......... William Rogers......... |

Thrillbilly, that's outstanding
Yeah, Prince Charles .. you couldn't make it up. I predict he will marry a horse. B., the Helen Mirren series was 'Prime Suspect'. And yes, she is considered the thinking man's wotsit. William, tell us about some more of your practical jokes! Coyote stew! (any of you guys eat roadkill?)

The closest I cam to road kill was on two occassions. On the first, I was driving home late one night after studying in the library and noticed a chicken blow-off a chicken-hauling truck. I stopped and picked it up and had it for dinner a week or so later. Chickens are not smart anyway, bu that sucker was way dumber than my laying hens--Road island Reds. That chicken blowing thing (!) happened frequently enough that wife and I watched for them. Turns out, so did the coyotes so you had to be pretty quick to get one.
The next time was when I was surveying in Argentina in the early '80's. The local with whom I worked carried a 9mm Beretta--turned-out he was a reserve military police officer....oh boy. Anyway, he was driving with me as passenger on a sandy road through lava fields south of Malargue when we saw a herd (flock?) of rheas. The other guy fumbled around in his glove box and came-up with that pistol and began wailing away at the rheas, which were on my side of the Toyota 4x4, resulting in hot, spent cartridge cases flying bout the cab and his bouncy-bouncy hand kicking back from the long-armed recoil and lava-bumpy road. He managed to kill one of them. Now that's road kill. Botnst |

just as with frau blucher in "young frankenstein", i hear that anytime Camilla-B is mentioned, the horses "whinney" in the background! :p
if you havent caught the film "the cook, the theif, his wife and her lover", well, then you havent really seen all ms mirren has to offer. warning, its a peter greenaway film, and is not for all taste! but, ms mirren clearly displays more of her "assets" than i dare guess has been seen heretofore. and im not talking about a glimpse, but a very extended scene. |

Helen Mirren was in Prime Suspect. I think it is available on Netflix on DVD.
Thrillbilly is correct. The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover is another revealing role for Ms. Mirren. That movie is a good complement to the recent thread about the German cannibal. She is also in the current Calendar Girls. That Peter Greenaway sure has produced some bizarre flicks.
