Yeah, I noticed at the Meguiar's GTG that you had installed a new OE grill.

Did any of the "purists" object to your aftermarket rims, and did anyone notice that you are running OEM 500E Euro headlights?

A couple of guys noticed the wheels but both were fully aware that they were originally sold on the 94 E500 in Europe and they welcomed the change. Believe it or not the director of concours judging liked my wheels and told me to leave it alone, that shocked me. No one commented on the Euro Lights or clear corners for that matter.

Off Topic...Sort Of....Some complaints I've been hearing from many concours judges in MBCA and other National car clubs is the the term "Over Restored". Apparently many judges are complaining that people are showing cars that look better than they did when factory new. For example rather than having a Silver Cad Plate on the nuts/bolts etc they have nickel plating and everything is overly polished. Interesting to see/hear these things.

Nice The best thread I have seen in recent months. What a refreshing topic compared to the boring political threads

Intersting. I didn't know that they were originally sold in 1994 on the E500.

Are you saying that these were the stock wheels, or that they were available by the factory as an upgraded wheel package?

These wheels were stock on the Limited Edition 1994 E500 Sold only in Europe. Other changes on the Limited Edition car included 245/45 Tires, Specially Dyed Leather, Custom Wood Inserts, Lower spring pads (2 Bump Front / 1 Bump Rear). Here's a picture I saved, can't remember where it came from.

The interior colors offered were red dye or green dye. This particular car had red with dark burl wood. Phone is not stock BTW.

Anyone care to comment on this ride?

That silver 500E looks hot with those big 18" AMG wheels!

All it needs is a pair of Euro-spec headlights and it would be a stunner!

and maybe... a correct shift knob.

Flash Gordon, your signature says that you have a 2003 E500. Did Mercedes-Benz make an E500 in 2003?
Thanks
Tim

Ted,

I agree wit Holson, the car looks like it's in great shape. If your serious about it, try to have it checked out by a mechanic before purchase. Also ask the seller for all maintenance records, if it doesn't have any I'd be weary. I like the wood shifter but as Holson mentioned it doesn't look like it's the right one, that will need to be changed unless it doesn't bother you. Good luck!

Tim,
MB did start making E500's in 03.
