Hey Guys,

I just got my first electric bill for the condo I bought. Two weeks: $100! That'll be about $200 a month.

I'm thinking of getting some space heaters so I don't use the heat pump so much. I will be needing new windows (my condo has a lot of windows) in the next year or so which is one reason why the heat is on so often.

Any recommendations on space heaters? I'm thinking of getting the radiator type that are filled with oil. Less air and dust blowing around and safer than ones with burning elements.

I use the quartz space heaters and they do keep the rooms warm without the high electric bill, mine is a Lakewood, I got it at ACE hardware..

I'll be getting new windows probably later this year. There are some leakage issues going on there, and there are a lot of windows in my condo. Right now I've got a little insulation stuffed into the grooves around the windows to stop some of the leakage, but nothing will beat new windows. The current set is original and were installed in '87 when the condo was built.

Everything in the condo is electric including the oven and water heater-- thus the higher electric bills. Thanks again for the advice! I figured you'd chime in on this thread!

I like and use the oil filled electric radiators, but I don't know how energy efficient they are.
Do you have a setback thermostat? They save a lot of money. You can also get a similar device for your water heater so you are not unnecesarily keeping water hot when you're not home.

The radiator type are the best space heaters for your buck! They work great.

I live in an old beach house 2 houses from the ocean. My rent includes electricity but not gas. Though we love the gas heat and it works great. We naturally use our space heaters! We have a radiator with thermostat in the front room that is on all day. Believe it or not it heats nearly the entire house.
