Anyone else get freaked out by noises?

Hard to have a good title here. Does anyone else get freaked out by noises at night, like when you're at home? Maybe I'm a little paranoid.

Every once and a while, which is like 2-3 times a week, I get up at night because I've heard a noise and check it out. Only once was there any real reason for the noise other than wind or something, and that was the cops running throught he yard almost three years ago, so there should be nothing to continually feed my paranoia. But you never know. I also get real weird if my pets perk up, so to speak.

I live on a solid street bordered on one end by a solid street and on the other end by the street known as the ghetto barrier. No offense intended, its just the way it is here. I also bought the house next door to me which has been vacant for a month until I rent it out to someone, which should be soon. Ever walked into a vacant and completely empty house at night? Freakin' freaky.

Anyway, most of the time noises are due to squirrels running on the roof which gets really loud sometimes, or wind blowing bamboo shades back and forth in my screened in porch. Anyway, just wanted a reality check. The house I live in is my first, and I've always lived in apartments in big cities, which is like totally safe if its a good building. It took me a long time though to actually sleep in a bedroom, because I've always had small apartments and could see the door at all times. So I slept on the couch in the main room by all entrances. I don't need a reality check there, I know its weird. What do you all think?

Sorry, I made so much noise we ran out of beer so I thought we check your place.

PS The leftover Lasagna is getting little ripe.

Apparently their already here, posting on this thread.

Seriously though get a dog, anyone wanting to do harm would have to have a serious pre-meditated vendetta to mess with a pissed off dog.

If some soon to be dead soul makes it through my doors he has to make through the Labradors then my Benelli M4 and with that I give him about a 1 in a 1000 chance of peeing like a man again.

Moving (Engatwork's suggestion) might not be a bad idea at all. But yes, it's great to have several security aids in place.
You know, dark empty houses aren't the only freaky things. There are pitch-black woods, dark deserted roads, and mausoleums...

Noises

Guess I do not pay much attention to noises at night - Have two teenagers left in the nest . Do have ADT security and two very discreet, small, ledgible signs that say; "There is nothing in this house that is worth your life.

Yeah, Yeah. I had an alarm system but I stopped using it. Cops through the yard is a long story!

I've been thinking about a dog, but I'm not at home enough to be a good dog owner. My neighbor had the meanest ass dogs you've ever sen, but she moved away. I should have told her to leave the dogs.

I live in a downtown area too, and some of my friends have said "Wow, you have a GREAT loft, but you're on the edge of the 'hood!"...

It's all perspective, I guess...since most of the people that say this live in the 'burbs.

I usually just tell them, "Yeah....but having a gun where you can quickly reach it does amazing things to improve the quality of your sleep."

The only thing I worry about with guns is what if someone else gets to it first.

I do have a crossbow, though. Will shoot straight through a phonebook. Now just hold on a second and let me cocjk this thing...
