w126 Design delights ??

Reciently I purchased a lovely '88 300sel .
What a great car to drive it is , kinda reminds me of my first '56 Belair..... ( perhaps I'm remembering thru rose tinted specs )

Well as you know ,, not all the world drives on the left , and the manufacturers also know this .
SO ... when a MB is built for , say , Britian , Singapore , Australia or New Zealand ( yep , thats me ) various things just have to change .
Like the complete dash , steering , wiring loom etc etc .

It rained today .........

Next time you are in the rain , in your LHD w126 , look across at where the w/screen wipers are putting all the water .
Yep right in front of the passenger .

Now here I am in my RHD benz ,, safest car in the world ,, with my visibility impared , because the engineers deemed it unimportant to change the sweep of the wipers on RHD w126 cars .

Imagine it , if you can , having a constant stream of water bubbles flowing up the screen in front of your vision , , how daft is that !!

Still at least "she who must be heard" can see .. ..

Despite that glaring omission in the design ,, I still love the w126 .

Why do you drive on the wrong side of the road? Not trying to offend you but, the whole world drives on the Right side of the road.

Except for Japan, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, the UK and a few other places totaling something like 1/3 of the world's population.

One more, why didn't they make all the hard fuel and break lines out of stainless steel? On a $65k car in 1987 there is no excuse, the start of the cost cutting?

Didn't teh DeLorean make use of a lot of stainless steel?

I saw one in a junkyard several years ago.

wiping pattern for LHD cars is mirrored in the RHD cars, unlike the C107 SL series where the wipers are the same for both LHD & RHD cars.

I like how the inside door handles warm up in winter. Not sure if that's purposely designed that way.

That 1/3 don't count none!!!

So, does anyone know the "real" reason why they drive on the "wrong" side of the road in England?

stainless is brittle. if it were better for fuel line they would be using it.
