here, I managed to find my response to you after diligent searches through teh musty archives.

Guess I should've prefaced my comments with, "MBlover,...". It will then perhaps make sense that he and I were in playful conversation and that my response had nothing whatsoever to do with your posting.

If you want facts or opinions about what the demonstration numbers actually mean, I haven't a clue.

Note especially the first paragraph. Perhaps if I explain it will help: My note was to MBlover and it was an attempt at displaying my sardonic wit on a recent political event. Though I assume MBlover understood it as humor and not a serious analysis, plainly you did not.

Perhaps other people were as astonished, mystified, excited, and confused as you were. I hope not, but I guess that's the risk one takes when trying to use a difficult form of humor in a print medium--some people are just plain going to miss the point, my bad. I do not presume to be a professional essayist so the chances are that I will fail to make myself clearly understood at every juncture.

I hope this helps you with your careful analysis.

B. Thanks for the reply. It would have helped had you identified to whom you were replying. In the context of that thread, it looked like you were commenting about those who did and those who did not attend protest rallies. Wisely, you have subsequently declared yourself clueless on that subject.

I thought it was a public forum--not a message board for select paticipants. Thus, I thought you were addressing everyone, not just one person with an inside joke.

So I guess you don't live in a wooden-framed house, or sit at a wooden desk, or eat on a wooden dining table, or drive an oil-using, gasoline-burning vehicle? Hmmm....

Some reasonable logging policies would have PREVENTED many of the huge, out-of-control forest fires we've had here in the US in recent years.

Some reasonable approaches to drilling for oil here in the US would make many of our problems and issues with the Middle East much simpler as well.

You, of course, are above sarcasm. I cannot say I have read all of your 2,500 posts, but I've read quite a few, and you do descend to that level from time to time. You generally do it when someone has made a factual point to which you have no answer.

You do not have to respond to anything--you can sit high on that perch you've been warming, above the fray, all comfy like.

I have noticed that you use a passive-aggressive technique and when called on it, you ask why anybody would think you were rude.

Well dude, I don't mind passing barbs and nails back for every sliver of glass.

Sorry, this is completely off-topic, but Joseph, I noticed you're from Champaign - did you used to own a brilliant silver 500e? I live in Devonshire and I think I've seen you around. Perhaps a yellowish 300se?

Anyway, good to see somebody else from around town here

Peter, no, I didn't own the car in question. I did once have a yellow 300D, also a white one. Before that, I had two 220Ds, (w115), and an old 220Sb (w 111). Currently, I have a dark green 300TD (station wagon, 1979, w 123), and a white 300SE (w 126, 1989.)

My in-laws used to live in Devonshire. My wife and I live in the older part of town, just off Prospect. Good to hear from someone close by.
