My watch: Cheap Casio that's lasted me 8 years and needed nothing more than a new band. When it goes it'll be replaced with something similar, maybe a little nicer, but it's not a priority.

I wear a Hamilton: 25 jewel Swiss automatic movement, chronograph, saphire crystal, stainless steel bevel, case and band, with a glass back.

While Hamilton is an old American brand, it is now owned by the Swatch Company, who also owns Omega, Tissot, and many other brands.

Hamilton watches are most noted for the pocket watches (they were first used by the railroads after the Civil War), and were also worn by our soldiers in WWI, WWII, Korea, and the Vietnam War.

Built, regulated, etc. for a whopping $385/Retail!

Here's pics of initial design:

BTW, not to hijack this thd or change dirs, but I can build with a variety of dials and hands if anyone's interested.

Oh yeah, just worked on a trashed vintage Girard Peregaux that got seawater in it and the dumba** owner waited a month to get it to me.
TomJ, one thing that I'm looking for is a Tudor California that's not a Rolex rebadge, it seems that most people that have had these had the dial refaced with the rolex name on it.

I didn't know Suunto made watches. I've used their fluid-filled compasses for years. Excellent products. With a compass and a GPS (and batteries) you can go anywhere.

Hey you mariners out there, do you still carry a sextant at sea?
Is your wristwatch good enough for navigation?
Ever read the book, "The Longitude"?

Wow awesome! I'm looking for an Omega military but I want to get one with a history, which is proving to be a difficult chore.

I know this sounds stupid, but waht exactly does a chronograph do? What are they good for?

I never seen one, much less owned one.

I'm in the market for a watch, if anyone has a deal on a used Omega or Hamilton I'm interested.

Do you mean Chronometer? Chronometer is a designation that a watch gets after it passes COSG testing Omega, Rolex and just about every other good swiss watch with mechanical movement goes through the COSG testing.

This place will give you much more information. http://www.chronocentric.com/

If you want an Omega let me know my brother in law owns a Omega certified jewery store. On referrals he will sell them at a good discount and you still get the Omega warranty unlike the Ashford or ePray gray market crap.

I am interested in an Omega, the SeaMaster looks cool. I'm pretty simple when it comes to jewelry, not too flashy, etc....Anything that fits the bill will work for me.

LEt me know how to drop him a line or email.

Thanks

On another note regarding watches.

Unless you know someone in the business when it comes to repairs, send it to the factory.

Long story/short, my tags dial somehow managed to rotate out of place after 10 years. Sent it to a local jeweler for repair. 135.00 later the dial was fixed as was the gasket around the bezel. Fine.

A week later I see it has taken on water and my watch is gettting moldy inside. I return it, they tell me I left the crown open when I went swimming. Bullshot, casue I would have remembered closing it at some point and it was closed when I saw the moisture.

They said he said, I told them to f*&^ off and now I have to send it to Tag.

A chronograph watch is differnet from a chronometer one. A watch that has several dials is usually called a chronograph. These dials usually tell date, month, stop watch, etc.
