Hey Z, I found something for ya!! :)
Being bored at work tonight, I've been browsing ebay for all manner of "stuff" that might be woth having some fun with.
I thought of you, when I found this little jewel of nationalized industry:  Enjoy it for the lighthearted ribbing that it is. In all seriousness, I had the opportunity a couple of years ago to snag one for $100. I kick myself in the butt for not taking up that offer - 2x6 front bumper and all. All it needed was a timing belt. I'd love to see how quickly I could kill one.

Gotta love it, the testament of time..."the windows roll up AND down still". Also enjoyed the recently found dent and rust from the leaky garage, unless that dent was caused by the leak how could one not notice it?
It's not too far away if anyone wants me to take a look at it...

...I think it was the only way those sneaky capitalists at Fiat could get their products into the US at the time. I remember car salesman extrordinaire Cal Worthington and his dog Spot selling those things way back then. The rear windows were notorious for popping out if you hit a bump too hard.

I know a farmer who bought a brand spanking new Belarus tractor back in the early 1980's He loves it. He claims its rugged as all get out. His theory was that they liked the 1950s JD (I think he said Deere. He's old enough to have worked on 1950's tractors) design and pretty much copied it. Further, he said that when they came to a part that might break, they just added more steel. Plastic is for wimps.

My wife's uncle had a smattering of slavs in the yard before he started into the rabbits and (ugh)caravans. One would be working at any given time, though it wasn't for the time or energy put into fixing them. When the bombing campagin in yugoslavia took out the auto plants, the cars became the only source of parts available. I think (seems from the auction too) that maybe someone is stamping out some new plastic and aluminum parts for these? never a more rickety ride in all my life. yikes.
