Gas prices don't bother me. I just fill'em up. Dont even look at the price. I'm always amused when people drive all over town or out to the boondocks to save 2 dollars on a tankfull.

As a sidenote, this summer will be a great time to pick up a gas hog Benz. Ever compared prices on diesel vs v8 powered MBs? 350SD/L's sell for double what you can pick up an equivelant 560.

I will be looking at California 450sel's this summer. They can be had for a song in mint condition. Guys sell the old gas hogs and pick up an 'economy' car with a monthly payment and depreciation

That's puzzled me as well. I see gas prices ranging +- $0.02 a gallon, and people with large SUV's travel miles out of their way to park in a long line with their engines idleing for several minutes. How much common sense does it take to realize how much money they are in fact LOSING by driving out of the way to save that lousy 2 cents? It is both time and money, and time IS money to me as well.

Go get a V8 gasser MB. They are good cars, especially if you don't care about fuel consumption. Although the 420SEL is practically as efficient as the 300SEL.

Not Interested in the 420's. Too many T-chain horror stories- the 117 motors seem sturdier in this regard. I want a 450SEL. Its the car I always wanted. Half the price of a 420 too.

I am partial to the '70's Mbs. Any newer than that and it looks like you are showing off. Blastin' down the freeway in a frumpy old 116 car- now that's style.

OK. The old M117 cast-iron block was definitely one of the toughest MB engines built. Those wont break chains like the aluminum M116, and M117's. My dad says, "They'll go as long as you want to put gas in them."

Despite the poor fuel economy, it DOES run on regular.

I saw a Hummer 2 on the road the other day.

It had the most fitting personalized liscense plate:

At least he knows what he's doing.

In my personal car(s) I don't let it affect me much as I drive a diesel and my wifes jeep gets about 20mpg.

Where I see higher prices affecting me more is in my companies work vans. My drivers get 45.00 per week for gas, anything over that they pay for as they are take home vehicles.

Anyway, I can see them asking for more $$$ as 45.00 doesn't go as far as it did. Gas gets higher, I have to spend more, I have to pass that cost onto my clients, they have to pass it on to their, etc....inflation....On a larger scale, if we ever paid 3.00 a gallon or more, we would more than likely be in a depression or very close to it.

It doesn't matter what you drive. The general cost of all goods and services goes up for everyone as gas prices rise. In our "just in time" economy most businesses rely on regular delivery of goods to keep things flowing. If the cost of those deliveries increase so will the cost of what you buy. Not good. IMO.

Never cared about what I pay at the pump but I worry about what I'm going to pay on everything else. The fiance worries about what she pays at the pump though, since she has a 5.0l V8 Mountaineer (15 mpg). Never could understand why she needed that thing.

My family has a taste for large v8 and v12 gas engines (not SUVs) and I have stopped paying attention to the increases in gas prices. If they go up too much, I'll just drive diesels.

HEY NOW!!! Just make sure you don't go knocking ME off of the road. I drive a Prius, and couldn't care less what anyone else drives. I simply LIKE the fact that I'm getting in the low 50's out of a gallon of gas.

I have come to the conclusion that the American public is getting screwed by the gas companies.

They charge certain markets more for gas because they know they can and will get it.

I went to Orlando yesterday and gas was 2.18 for regular unleaded. I drove 4 miles away, to Kissimme, Florida and it was 1.73. That's a .41 cent difference.

In Chicago, it was 2.19 and over the Indiana border it was 1.75.

OK guys, let the bidding begin. Near mint 86 300SDL (non trap oxidizer model), 150K miles, Blue/Green with Cream Beige leather.
Lead foot 22 MPG, non lead foot 27 MPG, either way 500-600 miles per tankful of diesel (or french fry oil if gas goes crazy).
In a moment of weakness I might part with it, will probably regret it forever.
