How do people die
There’s always a lot statistics about how many people die from this n that but death certificates mostly just say Respiratory failure or Heart failure, and they really seem to be put down with a Morphine Overdose. Where do the stats come from?

This is going to get graphic
In Houston, gun shot wounds are a biggy. Usuallly cause of death is very accurate and concise.
I did have some one close to me die of a drug related cause. Although the real cause of death was a morphine overdose, they put asphyxiation on the death certificate because he did not actually take enough morphine to kill him, he took enough to not react to the fact he had barfed while passed out. I believe if they aactually die of an overdose it will say "herion toxicity". Another example is a drunk driver. He died from drinking too much alcohol, but his death certificate is going to say "blunt force trauma" due to the head on collision he was in. |

Wow, tough question, German Star. I think people die when brain activity fizzles out to the point where consciousness can never be attained again (i have absolutely no idea how to fit special cases such as comas into this, especially since some people recover from comas and others don't). Our autonomic functions are meaningless without consciousness.

Quote:
Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were cleaned up and laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and invite friends to eat and drink and speak well of the person while they waited to see if he’d wake up. Hence, the custom of holding a “wake”.

When God says so and not before?
By failing to inhale after an exhale? Not waking up? Saying, "Oh" but not saying, "$hit!" "What's that light?" |

What is it about stabbing someone's abdomen that knocks them out instantly? I see it in movies all the time. At most they'll allow a dramatic collapse. I imagine the pain is excruciating, but won't the stabee languish in agony for a while?
