Slower response time since google?

Beginning around last fall, I think, I began to notice a slow-down in response time on this forum as well as 2 others that I frequent. The message that started to appear is like 'Waiting for pagead2 google syndication.com'. Have these forums switched to google servers or something and are we suffering a degradation as a result?
The slow response isn't constant, sometimes varies due to net traffic or other parameters, I think, but being interrupted while waiting for a page refresh or to be taken to a selected thread seems much more often than I remember. It frequently takes 30 - 45 seconds to complete. My internet high speed service provider and computer are the same as before.

Do you have an ad blocker on your browser?
It sounds like the Google ads on the pages you are viewing are having difficulty loading. That is the source of the error you are seeing.

All pages on the website load very quickly for me in IE7 and Firefox.

Post Help needed to figure this out

So far, I cannot duplicate the problem on my end. Pages load in a second or less on my computer. Maybe I can find a solution if you give me more info:

1) What kind of computer are you using? (PC, Mac, etc)

2) What browser are you using? (IE7, IE6, Firefox, Opera, etc)

3) What Operating System are you using? (WinXP, Vista, OSX, Linux)

4) What type of internet connection? (DSL, Cable Modem, Dial Up)

5) What type of LAN connection? (Wireless, Wired)

6) Is there a particular type of Google ad that causes the problem? (TEXT or FLASH VIDEO)

7) Does the problem occur at a particular location or time? (home, work, hotel, airport, etc)

8) Does the problem occur on any particular page on the website?

9) Are you using your ISP's DNS servers? (yes, no, I don't know)

Thanks!

PC, Intel Pentium III 800MHz CPU, 128Mb SDRAM, 20Gb hard drive

2) What browser are you using? (IE7, IE6, Firefox, Opera, etc)

Netscape 7.2

3) What Operating System are you using? (WinXP, Vista, OSX, Linux)

Windows ME

4) What type of internet connection? (DSL, Cable Modem, Dial Up)

Standard 1200 bps modem

5) What type of LAN connection? (Wireless, Wired)

Wired D-Link DI604 router

6) Is there a particular type of Google ad that causes the problem? (TEXT or FLASH VIDEO)

Not that I can see

7) Does the problem occur at a particular location or time? (home, work, hotel, airport, etc)

Always home, seems more often at peak times like weekends

8) Does the problem occur on any particular page on the website?

Usually logging into the forum main page

9) Are you using your ISP's DNS servers? (yes, no, I don't know)

don't know

Thanks!
I'm running Pop-up Stopper (free edition) and AVG free anti-virus. Disabling popup stopper doesn't seem to have any effect, but since the problem is very interrmittent, I'll have to play around for a week or so to experiment with this. As it is, response has not been that bad since I posted this issue, go figure!

If it helps, here is another forum that is really bad in the same way, for me

http://www.mazdaworld.org/forums/index.php?s=4b50ba7fff7c3d11a4c7fe73ea095f3

Attention to this is much appreciated.

Edit: OK, I logged completely off the internet, and went back to the site main page, then to here. I notice that sometimes the screen will refresh quickly, at the same time, the 'transferring data from www.mercedesworld.com' displays, then the 'Waiting for pagead2 googlesyndication.com' message is at the bottom of the screen and the hourglass is displayed, even though I'm at where I should be. If I watch this message, it sits there for about a minute, then there is a message about 'google analytics', then finally 'done' and we're ready to repeat the cycle. Sorry I don't have the software to freeze the progression of these messages, but that's about what I'm experiencing. At times, the screen refreshs while these 'background tasks' are working, other times it pauses before refreshing, and that is when I notice this.

Thanks for the data!

You are not really using a 1200bps modem to connect to the internet are you??? That's 20 year old dialup technology! In your first post you said you had high speed internet...that would mean DSL or a cable modem.

Windows ME and Netscape could be problems, too.

I have an old Pentium MMX 166 laptop with Windows 98 on it. I'll see if I can duplicate the problem with that.

Right now I need more data from more people before I can find a solution.

My "gut" feeling is that the problem is caused by the Flash video Google ads that sometimes appear but I don't have any data to support that yet.

If you are having the problem on the main Shop Forum page, this page, then it may be Google Analytics that is causing the problem. There are no Google Ads on that main page. There is however a link to Google Analytics on every page. Those links have been there since January 2007. If that is the source of the problem there might be something I can do to speed it up.

Sorry, I'm ashamed to confirm my ineptness with the technology. I checked with my service provider, and my internet connection is, and I quote, 'PPP OE DSL and 535 KB/SEC'.
All gibberish to me, but hope that helps....

Good. That means you have DSL.

I sent you a PM. Try that suggestion.

Exclamation Change made

Ok
I made a change on the server that may or may not help. Time will tell.

Basically, what I did was to cache Google Analytics' urchin.js file on the MercedesShop server so it is called locally instead of having to access the Google server each time you view a webpage on our server.

Thumbs up Great!

Thanks for letting me know there was a problem. If I don't know about problems...it's hard to fix them!
