Thumbnails vs. attachment

On posts that have attachments I usually see a thumbnail of it, but on others I just see a link to the attachment.

On *my* posts, it is never a thumbnail, just a link to it.

Is that how it is supposed to work?

I hope this helps =>

When you create a new thread you can see an area near to the bottom of the page where you can upload an attachment. These files get stored in their own special area at the bottom of the page. If they happen to be pictures then hovering your mouse pointer over these files makes a little script activate a larger view of the picture in a pop-up-like window that hovers in front of your eyes.

You don't get the option to upload a file in the "Quick Reply" window. To upload a file you need to click on the "Post Reply" button and then you'll find the manage attachments option near to the bottom of the page again.

You can insert a picture, however, at anytime by using the link box => the little yellow box with a picture of two mountains and the sun <= but the picture needs to have a URL. In this case the picture is displayed within the text rather than the hovering over the text situation described above.

Please note if you upload an attachment here on peach parts it will also have a URL - you can then link to this URL and insert your uploaded picture into more than one post if you like.

To find the attachments you have uploaded onto the peach parts site go to userCP (near to top left hand corner of this page) and scroll down the new page to see the attachments link on the left hand side.

Does that answer your question?

This may help explain it better

If this forum, look at the thread titled "Please tell me how post Pictures" It is near the top of the forum.

* In post #25, I see a thumbnail

* In post #31 I see a link I need to click on. I don't see a thumbnail.

Why don't I see a thumbnail for #31?

Short answer from me this time! => I dunno.

A bitmap is an image but I guess it is a file type that is excluded from the forum software that gives a preview of the image.

If you look back at the images in post#25 (in the thread you mention) you can see that the images shown are scaled down versions of the attached images. The forum software shows these scaled down previews - if you hover over the images with your mouse you see the larger image.

If you were to attach a jpeg or a png image you'd get to see the preview.
