E320 mirrors "leaking"

I have a 98 E320 wagon where the LH outside mirror has lost the reflectivity from the bottom half and appears to be leaking some brown substance.
I suspect this is some of the material they use to auto dim the mirror
I couldn't see any reference to this problem and where the car has 107K miles I'll probably need fix it myself.
I fell over when I saw the price of new mirrors and was hoping someone could advise on what this leaking is and whether its terminal ( which I assume it is)
and where I might locate a used mirror at a resonable price ( the housing is fine
I can post a picture if anyone request one
Thanks in advance
Bob

As for the leaking, I dunno, but I just looked up your mirror glass from Fastlane - $275!! Then I looked up my mirror glass which I remember to have cost <$50 (from Fastlane last year) and guess what - $275!! I recommend you call Phil I think the prices on mirror glass are wrong.

A few years back a member of the MBclubof America had this happen on a 1998 C230, he reported that the liquid is from the heating element and that when it got on his paint it left stains.

Go to a used Mercedes parts house for a replacement, I think removing the mirror from the housing is easy - it may be a snap or a release with a screwdriver do a search

BTW did you notice the mirror taking on a yellow tinge recently before the leaking.
