2 problems with my s500 that are ANNOYING!

1995 S500 W140 sedan

Whenever I start the car with the radio on, the sound will be off..so i have to switch to another CD or switch to FM and put it back onto the CD so the sound starts up...and if i turn off the radio, the radio will freeze and turn off for 3 days and start back up after 3 days..WTF??? thats 1 problem i can live with... the main problem is:

The keyless entry doesn't work and neither does the entry from the driver side door so I have to unlock it from the passenger side lean forward..anyways and pull up the locks manually ...ANNOYING....so can someone tell me if its possible for a DIY fix/diagnose? i know benz dealer will rip me off and charge me 1000$ more than what the job costs but thats part of owning a benz and i want to get around that if at all possible...

when i press the button to lock/unlock on the key, the lights switch from green to red etc. but the locks dont lock/unlock.... theres something messed up with the entire locking system i believe...b/c even if i press the unlock/lock button from inside the car, it doesn't do anything...same goes with the trunk and gas opener.....

so if i try to unlock the driver side door...it doesn't lift up the lock to unlock it...basically i have to unlock the door from passenger side...and manually pull open all the locks....and to open the trunk, i have to put the key in..turn it to unlock position and push etc... and put it down and turn to lock position to lock....and the hatch/latch thing for the trunk is always out when its suppose to go in..

..i know you guys will probably tell me to just go to the dealer but any other suggestions?

if i have to go to the pro's..whats a good place near either orlando or jacksonville area? thanks alot!

500 problems

I have no clue as to you radio issue.
As to your locking issue I would look at a couple of things when you lock/unlock the door with a key it closes a circuit which starts the vacuum/ pressure pump under the pass. rear seat and unlocks all the doors trunk and fuel door. The same should happen if you unlock/lock the trunkwith a key. Since your remote switches it is probably sending a signal to the pump, but the pump is not reacting. There is a tool called a mighty vac which creates vacuum if you need to troubleshoot lines or actuators ($50). I think it is vacuum to lock, pressure to lock. I bet your lumbar support does not work either, since the pressure comes from the same pump along with the handle. There might be a problem with fuses, or a vacuum leak which could cause the pump to turn off due to the safety cicuit built in. Take out the seat and see if any sounds come out of it after pulling the fuse for a few seconds to reset. I think there was a note from MB that identified a problem with a bad hose inside the pump on 95s, which can be replaced if the pump attemps to run but can not develop any pressure or vacuum.
I am confused why you cant get the drivers door button to go up or down with the key, the switch on the inside is very similar to the remote in locking unlocking (starting the pump)

I believe your remote system is fine (your lock and unlock signal verifies it); however, either your pump under the seat is bad, or the signal itself (I'm sorry to say likely to be the pump; that's assuming you already checked the fuse). Mechanical resistance on the driver door is likely a bad locking cylinder, unless the cylinder locking "finger" is stuck.

Your radio will need to be tested by a facility with the appropriate equipment to hook up to it, to eliminate some other expensive possibilities, I'm afraid.

I noticed you guys were talking about a vac pump under pass seat. Does a 98 sl500 have the same pump located under the pass seat? The reason I ask is I had my car on the lift the other day and noticed what seemed to be oil leaking from a hole right under pass seat area. I'm thinking to myself what could leak oil from that area of the car. Is there oil in the pump or is there anything else in that area that has oil in it? or am I just going crazy. Oh by the way I've been a GM tech for 16 year and I'm very familiar with GM cars but when it come to MB I'm a little lost for now but I'm trying to learn.
