Hi,
To everyone here. This is my first posting since I am also new to owning a Mercedes. My father has a 1985 300D Turbo (123), so I am already familar with these cars. I bought my 1980 300SD (116) a month ago and learning as I go. My question is about the interior. My car does not have the classic "MB Tex" interior. It has just standard vinyl. By that I mean the seats are not pleated like my father's car. However the only crack/tear is on the driver's seat left bolster. How long has MB been using "MB Tex"? I am just trying to figure out if maybe the interior was redone. Though I don't know why "MB Tex" would need replacing. My father's interior is in great shape. My car was built in April of 1980. Was "MB Tex" relatively new at that time and maybe was an option? Any insight would be appreciated.

MB Tex was used in the late 60's on. I'm sure it was available on 108 chassis and 114/115 chassis. It was used in all versions of 116 chassis. The only interiors on US version cars were: leather, Tex, and velour. In Europe there was a cloth interior as the base option. MB Tex was the base option for all US models.

Many w126s with MB Tex have the same crack on the driver's seat left bolster. On my 300SD, I had a local shop to replace just that one section. The shop matched the material very well and I could hardly tell the different. The job was $200 which included two new springs, non-MB padding, repairing MB-Tex bottom cushion, and replacing the left bolster.
