Ssangyong Rextron with Mercedes engines????

few yrs ago Daewoo took over Ssangyong which bought the M103 engines from MB.
Now GM took Daewoo out.
Does anybody know what is happening at Ssangyong? They are selling Rextron Suv everywhere in Malaysia(for a once bankrupt co they have lots of doe for billboard adverts in malaysia) and it looks like the model with MB engines they showed at car shows here few yrs ago.

I was thinking of sending my MB to Ssangyong dealers for service at half of the MB labour rate!!!!!

In Australia we had several Ssangyong models, the Musso being the most popular. They all used MB petrol or diesel engines (the petrol six was the 3.2 M104, not an M103). Later the same vehicles were sold by Daewoo. Since Daewoo is no longer around I notice that again the Ssangyong brand is available here, this time as a Rexton. Presumably the same MB engines are used as they are offered with a 3.2 petrol or 2.9 diesel. I remember reading a road test for the Ssangyong Musso when it was new. The verdict was "Good points - the MB bits, bad points - the rest!". A friend of mine has an early 3.2 Musso which can be purchased cheaply here. I have driven it and I can say the experience was not that good. I always considered the late (HFM) M104 to be a bit noisy (in a W124) compared to the M103. Well you ought to hear the noise it makes in a Musso! Only all the rattles and squeaks were louder. Admittedly this example has covered high kilometres. The M104 does do a reasonable job of shifting the mass of the 4WD Musso though.
