Special spring compressor for '76 450SL?
i'm about to change my lower control arm bushings and i noticed my normal spring compressor isnt going to work on these front springs. there are too many coils too close together for my compressor to fit
does anyone now of a way to get the job done w/o a special tool? Thanks |

I need to rebuild the front end of my 300D which has almost the identical front end to your 107. The shop manual shows a procedure where the LCA is supported by a jack with special adaptors while the lower shock bolts are removed and the jack is SLOWLY let down expanding the spring. Don't take my word for it, this can be dangerous as I'm sure you know and I've never done this myself.
I think it can be done with a regular floor jack, but please check with the more experienced members here. Or you can get the proper spring compressor.
