I have never tried it but that looks like it will work. Just be sure your diagnosis is correct before you go that way. Usually there are one or two "traces" that survive and prove that the system is getting enough power. Provided you measured the voltage while the grid was attached then your diagnosis should be correct. Another way to go is get a new rear windshield. I would get the advice of a glass guy who is probably very familiar with the problem.
