190D swapping out the auto for a manny; Need info on the flywheel.

[Will the flywheel off '84 2.3 (donor car) work on a '87 2.5. I'm swapping out the auto from the 2.5 for the 5sp from the 2.3.

Any info on the flywheel will be a great help in deciding to do the swap.

The flywheel and crank are balanced as a set.

Sometimes we can't do it the way the factory may have. Iv'e done two (one gas, one diesel) where I needed to swap a manual flywheel onto an engine originally equipped with an automatic. Nw bolts, new pinion shaft bearing, new clutch and pp. No vibration problems at all.

Question

Hanno,

did you use swap the trannie on your 190D 2.5? I have the whole 190E 2.3 5 sp donor car and was planning to use the flywheel from the 2.3 for 2.5. I emailed another shop forum member (grimgaunt) about the flywheel as he is doing the same thing to a '86 190D. He was kind to reply that I would need the flywheel from the 2.2 oil burner for my conversion.

Which flywheel did you use? Did the mpg and pick up both increase?

Thanks

I swapped a diesel automatic engine into my manual car (86, 190D2.5). It was the only thing available at the time. I used my original flywheel, it was simple remove and replace. I don't know difference of manual trans.flywheels between gas and diesel. I'll check my manuals to see if differences can be determined. Shameless plug...If you are interested, I've got a used clutch disc and pressure plate from 86 190D2.5 taking up space. There is almost no wear on the disc, cheap, make offer. Hanno

Talking

I planning on using the clutch from the 2.3 if it will work with a flywheel from a 2.2. If that clutch does work or is shot, I'll be interested in yours.

Thanks,

Shawn
