Removing Center Console on 91 126

I have a window not working in my 1991 560SEL and went to test the center console window switch, however I cannot remove the center console wood panel (to which the switches are attached). This is a task I've completed several times before for my 1988 420SEL.

I got to the point in my 1991 where the ashtray and change container are removed, and the console slides forward approximately 1", however it will not pop up, as it did easily when removing the console in my 1988.

The 1991 has a slightly different gear shift gate/cover due to an additional safety feature (which locks the gear shift in P if the brake pedal is not depressed); my 1988 does not have this feature. I believe this gate may be keeping the console down. Or, maybe there is a screw I'm not aware of?

Also, If the center console window switch controlling a rear window is not functioning, will this affect the functionality of the rear seat window switch for the same window?

Thanks.

I can only try to help regarding the answer for your last question -
"Also, If the center console window switch controlling a rear window is not functioning, will this affect the functionality of the rear seat window switch for the same window? "
No - it should not. Unless the faulty switch is removed completely.

to remove the wood; remove the ashtry, remove the coin try under it. With the shifter in park, slowly push the wood forward, the wood should now be free.
If you want to take it out completly, loosen the jam nut on the shifter, then unsrew the shifter.
