Speedo cable question?

I just replaced the speedometer cable in my 87 300D. I noticed after installing the cable that the speedometer needle is jumpy and not smooth as I would have expected. No instructions came with the new cable. Are you supposed to lubricate the new cable? If so, what is a good lubricant?

No you don't need to lube it, but you do need to be sure that all bends are done at maximum radius. It others words no sharp bends.
