Conversion from non-heated to heated seats (W126)
Hi all,
Just need some info (again). I saw this 1990 300SE being parted out. The seats are really nice and I also love the last design of the seats for the 126 chassis which it has. I was thinking of purchasing those seats as replacement for the ones in my '84 500SEL which are worn out. However, I noticed that the front seats from the 300SE weren't heated and the ones in my 500SEL are heated. Is there any means, at all, in this world by which I can convert the non-heated seats in the 300SE to heated seats as I use them to replace my heated front seats? Has anyone here ever done such a crazy thing?

I seem to recall that the heating elements slide into the pockets/rolls/pleats of the seat, and from there it's a wiring thing. If the design of the seat pleats (I'm looking for words to describe the pattern of upholstery padding here) is the same or similar, you should be able to retro-fit the elements from your 500SEL into the 300SE seats. A lot of work though, and hardly worth it unless you really use the heating function.

Sounds like some work. Well thanks for your reply. I will give that to the guy selling the seats. He is a mechanic so he might be able to figure it out.
