www.brickboard.com

A very good bunch of people over there. I use both forums (MercedesShop & BrickBoard) to maintain my fleet.

What model Volvo did they get?

Volvo forum

I had a couple of 240's for many moons, I think 178K and 215K. I used a site called www.swedishbricks.com.
I found it helpful to have 2 like vehicles, so you can swap computer components, which seemed to be a weak spot for me.

Enjoy...those cars would put out heat in 2 minutes on a cold day, great heaters.

i hope it's a 94, the 92-93s had weak castings and coolant can leak out the side of the block. check the service history carefully, there's also timing belt issues. good luck, chuck.

You really want to check out this feature of the Brickboard. I have made some contributions. They are culled from RWD postings.

http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/

There is a 960 section and these motors, while sturdy and powerful, have a timing belt which needs to be replaced. On later models, check your owners manual, it's 70K miles. Look for a sticker on the front of the belt cover.

Changing the belt is not that hard but, depending on the mileage, you may want to replace the tensioner, tensioner pulley and idler pulley. I just did this on my 960 wagon, 965, and the parts csot me about $375 from the dealer. www.fcpgroton.com has good deals on parts and they are reliable.

http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?

http://www.volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php is another Volvo forum. The man who moderates the FWD forum is a Volvo Master service tech who works in Alexandria Va. He does some work on my 960 and V70 when I can't do the job. I alsk him questions on the 960 6 cyl, which is the same as the 5 cyl version but with one more cyl, and he answers my questions. The RWD section isn't as heavily used as the fwd section.

These cars are fast and powerful, lots of low end torque, and cruise really well. I can help you with other questions you may have.

More Volvo help

Another good parts source for Volvo is Hirsch Industries, Phoenix,AZ.
They deal in recycled parts. I have used them for a few items, mass flow sensors to trailer hitches.

They ship rapidly and have been good quality.

Hey Jeff,

Does Hirsch deal in just recycled Volvo parts, or all makes? (foreign, domestic?)

Thanks,

Try this site as well.

http://volvo-t5.co.uk

also, for parts I have used

http://www.ipdusa.com/

My wife has a 1999 T5 white over tan. Great cruising car but I'll take my 16 valve in the turns or just for pure fun any day.

Mine is metalic blue and I think it is a very good looking car. It has the improved 850/S70 like front suspension. The wheel offsets are the same as the FWD cars.

What's the mileage? When was the timing belt changed?
