OBD II reader at Auto Zone
[B]I replaced the MAS last night on the ML-320 year 2000, the CEL stayed on.
Was advised to drive it for a few days and after about 40 cycles of the ignition switch it should go out. Or Goto Auto Zone and have them reset it. So I visited AutoZone and they scoped it with their OBD II. Read 4 codes MAS, right fuel trim and air temperature sensor malfunction and a fourth. They tried 3 times to reset the codes but their reader kept coming back with all 4 error codes present. He suggested that maybe Mercedes would not allow a reset with their type of OBDII. So I thanked them and drove away. The CEL was OUT !!! Wonderfull !!! I'm guessing the ML had to be turned off (the ignition switch) and restarted in order to finalize the resetting sequence.? The engine was NOT running while connected to the OBD II reader. He cautioned me that it could corrupt the ML's computer if scoping while the engine is running. ML runs much better, more power, no hesitation. They used a OBD II SCANNER CP 9135. Wonder if it will read SRS codes? What's the pros and cons or limitations of such a device?. We have a 2002 S-10 Checy and a 1997 Bravada all of which have had CEL on from time to time.I'm think Xmas present and a good tool to have around. Anyone have any experience with this device, I see it can be purchased for $40-60 on Ebay? I am an Electromic/Electrical Engineer, BUT not a mechanic, I really enjoy reading the postings and learning about fuel trim, heated wire MAS sensors, etc., from you experts. These fourms are a great tool. Thanks Northern Ohio Last edited by SmithIns; 10-22-2004 at 11:52 AM. |
