![]() ![]() Was advised to drive it for a few days and after about 40 cycles of the ignition switch it should go out. Or Goto Auto Zone and have them reset it. So I visited AutoZone and they scoped it with their OBD II. Read 4 codes MAS, right fuel trim and air temperature sensor malfunction and a fourth. They tried 3 times to reset the codes but their reader kept coming back with all 4 error codes present. He suggested that maybe Mercedes would not allow a reset with their type of OBDII. So I thanked them and drove away. The CEL was OUT !!! Wonderfull !!! ![]() I'm guessing the ML had to be turned off (the ignition switch) and restarted in order to finalize the resetting sequence.? The engine was NOT running while connected to the OBD II reader. He cautioned me that it could corrupt the ML's computer if scoping while the engine is running. ML runs much better, more power, no hesitation. They used a OBD II SCANNER CP 9135. Wonder if it will read SRS codes? What's the pros and cons or limitations of such a device?. We have a 2002 S-10 Checy and a 1997 Bravada all of which have had CEL on from time to time.I'm think Xmas present and a good tool to have around. Anyone have any experience with this device, I see it can be purchased for $40-60 on Ebay? I am an Electromic/Electrical Engineer, BUT not a mechanic, I really enjoy reading the postings and learning about fuel trim, heated wire MAS sensors, etc., from you experts. These fourms are a great tool. ![]() Thanks Northern Ohio Last edited by SmithIns; 10-22-2004 at 11:52 AM. |

The small ammount that an OBDII scanner will do only applies to check engine lights. No SRS, ABS, ESP, BAS, AMM, IC, AC, D2B, EAM, VG, ETC, ESM. It only applies to a small portion of ME in your case. It will do relatively more on your other cars as they have less electronic controls to work with.

Thank you for the information, does not sound like it is worth having for the MB, just go to Auto Zone!

SnapOn has recently come out with an "inexpensive" scanning and code reset tool which is specifically setup to work on late model Euro cars. Depending upon the year of the car, it will do basic codes and HVAC, some of the later years cars (after 96) will also allow control of other functions.
Note: it has VERY limited use in '92 w140 cars, therefore I am selling the unit that I just recently purchased. If you have a 92 sel, then this is not what you want. If you have an Audi or VW (in addition to a later model MB), then this kit might work GREAT for you. Kit comes in box with all cables needed for most Euro cars. Sells new for $719. I will sell mine, most cables still in the wrapper, all manuals, etc., EXC (as new) condition - $450 (and I'll ship at that price within 48 US). Thanks -David |
