I have a 1997 SL320-the lock mechanisim is turning in the trunk without opening and the key and internal switch do not work- the lock mechanisim is obviously damaged and needs repaired or replaced, but HOW DO YOU OPEN THE TRUNK TO REPLACE THE LOCK FROM OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE OF THE CAR?
PLEASE HELP!

Have you resolved this yet? If not all you have to do is remove the right license plate light above the tag, in there you will find the rod that controls the lock the one that goes from the button to the lock. Get ahold of it and push it towards the lock, that will release the trunk, allow you access to fix your problem. Good luck!
