Sorry I was confused. Just went and looked at it again. The P is actually black. It right under a light switch on the dash that is adjacent to an air vent. Still don't see anything inside the car that would release the hood.

The P is a release for the parking brake.
There is another lever under there, probably slightly to the right, under the dash on the lower left side. Take a flashlight, grope around and you will find it. It may have the words "HOOD" written on it. It could be a T-handle or a lever. Seek and ye shall find! Good luck! If you tell us the exact YEAR and MODEL someone here will have one just like it.

Finally found it guys. Thanks. It is a red lever under the dash adjacent to the brake. Had seen this earlier but when I pulled on it, it didn't seem natural so I moved on. Went back and found it and pulled harder and voila.
Thanks again. |

Try reading the owners manual, or as we say in the computer biz, RTFM.
