(A) Locate and retrieve spare D2B fiber cable (for CD changer installation)

There is a spear fiber cable labeled “SBS” located in the electronics compartment in the trunk.

1. Fold both rear seats down
2. Under the carpet, remove the screws from the hold-down rings using a Torx T-40
3. Remove the plastic cover
4. Locate and remove the fiber cable (one end is free, the other is in the foam bag on the right).
5. Put everything back.

(B) Remove centre console cover panel and radio

1. Open ashtray
2. Using a plastic wedge (putty knife) pry up the wood gear shift cover. Once it has been released, slide it forward to release the rear clips.
3. Apply the parking break and move the shifter to “D”.
4. Move the wood towards the rear to get it out of the way.
5. Cover the ashtray wood with masking tape (important to avoid scratches)
6. Open the ashtray
7. There are two clips that need to be released by prying them slightly towards the rear of the car.
8. Remove the ashtray and set it aside. You can either disconnect it or let it hang into the drivers foot-well.
9. The outer most two screws retaining the console need to be removed with a Torx T-20. The screws are located in the void left by the ashtray.
10. Gently pull the wood towards the rear. Once the plate is free of the radio, pull it down to release it.
11. Release the four plastic clips retaining the climate control panel (two on top and two on bottom) and remove the control from the panel.
12. Disconnect the cable connecting the buttons at the top of the panel or place the panel on top of your dash.
13. Remove the two torx T-20 screws retaining the radio.
14. The radio will slide forward. It does not need to be disconnected to install a CD changer.

(C) Connect CD Changer
1. Remove the three CD changer transport keys and cover the holes with the supplied stickers.
2. Set the suspension springs to “H” (horizontal); there are two located on either side behind a plastic cover.
3. Mount the changer in the bracket (if you blew the $50) or attach $1 worth or Velcro.
4. Using a sharp knife, remove the knock out on the left side of the glove box above the shelf.
5. Feed the fiber thru the hole (keeping the 90 degree connector in the glove box).
6. Locate the power cable. This is a three conductor cable wrapped with masking tape. It is located behind the ashtray void with a number of other spare cables (for phone, command, etc.).
7. Feed the power cable behind the radio and into the glove box.
8. Locate the fiber splice (rectangular box) located on the fiber cable leaving the radio.
9. Using a screwdriver, pry up one retaining clip releasing one fiber (leaving the other connected). The fiber end will be clear or red.
10. Do the same to the CD Changer fiber cable. If the released fiber is the same color as the previous one, reconnect it and release the other end.
11. Insert each fiber into the other fiber splice. Do not force; the fibers are keyed and if they don’t fit you have a miss-match.
12. Connect the fiber and power to the CD Changer, securing the cables in the bracket clip (or tape them to the top of the changer if you went the Velcro route).
13. Slide the bracket into the slot on the top left of the glove box and secure it with the self-tapping screw (or apply the Velcro).
14. Put everything back the way you found it.
15. Have your D2B ring version coded by you dealer (bring a box of donuts or a 5-pack of beer). Untill you do this you will still received the "No CD Changer" message.

Not that I have a w209 or anything, but damn fine job with the write up. i wish all threads had a final post like this that "wrapped up" the work that was done.

I wanted to give-back to the community that made the install possible. There were no instructions specifically for a W209, but there were bits and pieces of information scattered here and there for various other models.

I too would like to see more people post their final results; in part to thank those that helped them, and to make the information available to those that follow.
