1980 240d timing question

I lost my timing chain and against advise to fix I have had the head redone and have all new parts now to put it back together. At TDC for #1 do the paint marks on the injection pump gear mean something? I have looked at a couple of books and see the different methods of timing, but where should the pump be located at when you start by putting the chain on? The gear on the end of the IP (I have the cover off) has a green dot on the front face. If you locate the green dot at twelve o'clock there is a yellow paint mark at eleven o'clock and a white small paint mark at eight o'clock. I assume all these paint marks have something to do with the timing. Does any one know where the pump should be located at when I put the chain on with #1 TDC.
