560 not idleing properly
Okay, engine fires up, however it will not stay running. After it fires up it will run for about 3-5 seconds before it dies. If I give it a little throttle, it will stay running, however as I slowly back off on the throttle, the RPMs drop until they get to about 400rpm then it stops. After the engine quits I hear the fuel distributer quit about a half-second later.
For those who haven't read my posts before this is on a 1988 560 SEL on which I'm putting the finishing touches on a top-end rebuild. *All the electrical wireing goes where its supposed to go, thats been visually verified 3 times by me. *Most of the vacuum lines are attached properly, however there is a possibility I missed a couple. *The engine will run, however it is rough until about 1200RPMs where it smooths out. Since the rebuild I've only taken it to 2000RPMs and have not driven it. *The O2 sensor wires may have been damaged, but I cannot verify this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Scott |

I had a similar problem a year or so ago, but it happened while driving through a garage looking for a place to park. Sounds to me like it's the idle speed control unit and/or valve. My mechanic told me if one...and I can't remember which... goes the other likely does as well. We replaced both...at a cost of about $800.00...and that cured the problem. She now idles at a steady 475 RPM and runs like the proverbial top.
