Heater core - 129. How much labor?

I've been having interior condesation problems on my 1992 500SL and I'm convinced it's the heater core. Does anyone have any idea how many hours f labor I can expect to pay for replacement?

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Scott

heater core

First, do you smell anti-freeze in the cabin??? If not, it may not be your heater core. Condensation maybe coming from your evaporator drain hose . The hose is easily replaced by accessing the port under the car and pulling on it gently. I replaced mine with a rigid clear hardware store type hose and preheating the end of it prior to fitting into the evaporator box.If you have to replace the heater core, it is in with the evaporator -in the SAME box. Therefore, 22 hr charge via dealership. If you decide to do this, PLEASE replace the evap because they have to dissconnect the darn thing anyway. If this is an original evap/heatercore, you need to replace both. PLUS-- all the vacuum actuators as well. Sorry... I did this project 14 months ago and it was a major PITA.
I was qouted 3200 big ones to do ONLY the evaporator. Considering the age of your car, if you do one , you should do the other- unless you enjoy being up side down for hrs. taking small bolts off the bolster. Good luck

Yikes!!! Lotsa $$$$!

Yes I do smell anti-freeze in the cabin. Obviously not a good sign. Looks liek I'll have to start saving my pennies.

diy

if you like tinkering with stuff- I was able to replace practically every component under the dash that's got to do with the A/C - heating department for about a grand. Is your a/c system still r-12 or 134A?? If 134a, then it'll be a grand . If r-12, it might be a bit more ... I have a transcript of the procedure it's self...I know that kinda anal for one to do...but it's available if you want it for reference or just to read up on why it took me 26 hrs to finish-- good luck
BTW, the heater core is $100, evap (copper) $220, 6 vacuum actuators $75 each. receiver drier$ 35, expansion valve $40?. The rest are misc. expenditures.

Answer: 12.4 hours for the 129 series. You can get this info from the labor time guide that is available through another post on this forum. Very handy little item.
