300td 4 Matic?

Hi.
Due to a change in my work i will probably have to change my CLk for a station wagon and i need also a good diesel.
I am interested about a 300 6 cilinder turbo diesel, but the only problem is that i have to buy this in SWIZERLANf and here mosty are PETROL.....I just founded 1 good 1 but is 4- MATIC.
I would like to know if this system is relaiable and if is possible to disconnect or dimantel partially because i am sure that a never need this in my home country (ITALY).
Tha car has 224.000 Km in good shape with a new gerabox ( automatic)
They ask about 6.000 Euro.
Can someone tell me his experience with this car?
Many thanks guys this forum is very helpfull
Alberto

If you do a search for "4matic", you will learn a lot about this feature. Some like me love it, some hate it, but when it works, it is outstanding for traction. However, if you will not need the 4matic where you live, then I would recommend you to stay away, as the system is costly if it needs repair, so why subject yourself to potential headaches if you don't need to??

You don't mention the year car you are considering, but the W124's are notorious for the original transfer case leaking around 125,000 miles, thus requiring a replacement. Some owners disable the system via a switch for towing and repair diagnosis purposes, but it is my understanidng that this also disables the self-leveling suspension, thus affecting handling and who knows what else.

Could you convert that to MPH?
This would be a better choice than a 1st generation 4Magic. The NEW (current) version is good, no problems.
The transfer cases are very unreliable, the front suspension design I find frightening (check out the springs!), they don't ride or handle as nice as a 2wd version, there are other reasons I can't think of right now.
A 94 diesel owner will have to let you know about your current speed/power question, it'd probably do just fine, take it for a roadtest! Whatever it'll do for you (speed-wise) I'm sure it would do it all day, MB's are like that. Tough. The HP figure belies the capabilities of the car, lots or torque.

FYI you can always let google convert for you...

Google search "140 kilometers in miles "

Which is about 87 mp/h

Yes, it's a 606.910 engine, 4 valve DOHC.
Max speed (with auto transmission) is 197 kmh.
0 to 100 kmh with 2 occupants is 13 seconds.
Same 0-100 time for the 5 speed manual, but top speed is 200 kmh.
HP is 136 @ 5000 rpm
Torque 210nm @2200 to 4600 rpm.
