Coupe vote
I agree with dwest. Unmatched styling (and if the paint still shines, a real head turner). People just don't believe the car is 17 years old!!!
I feel the same way about the car too. Going to keep mine (an '88 with 73,000) till death do us part. Have you seen the new MB commercial for what they call the "4 door coupe?" It shows brief images of older coupes, and, yes, it has the 124C in the lineup. Don't know how it will function as even a temp or emergency family vehicle with baby seats, etc. Better have another car (or two) for that. Coupes and kids don't mix! And, like dwest, I smile getting in mine too! ![]() ![]() But 173,000 is a lot of miles! I'd be more concerned with what you can't see than what you can ! ![]() Good Luck. |

One of my cars is a 92 300E with 121K miles on it. It's a very nice comfortable car. I've owned MB cars for over 22 years and while I've not owned all the different models I can say the 300E is one of the best. I've been told that a quite a few mercedes mechanics drive this model too. It's not hard to work on unless you need to pull the dash to replace an evaporator. Parts are not to expensive either.

Had a 91 300E, bought at 186k with burned up motor.
Put a used motor in it. Drove 55k in 2.5 years---great car, could have driven it another 10 years. Got a line on a 1990 300CE--105k miles-- bought it on the spot, sold the sedan to my brother(Tech in our shop, he has 2 kids, I have none) A year later--sedan is pushing 260k. Still going strong. What do I like best about the coupe---? 1. BRAKES-- big, beefy suckers, same as most 129's- 4 piston caliper- gotta love it. 2. Power-- never a complaint with the 103, but more is better Drawbacks-- 1. gotta borrow a truck to go to Home Depot. 2. Upgraded stereo in 91 sedan. Regrets-- zero

Hi All,
Thank you all for the feedback and advice. I do really appreciate it. You guys are awesome. Thank You !!. I am going to check the 1991 CE tomorrow. The owner agreed to have my mechanic look at it. So we will see. I went to check 1992 300E yesterady, and I was very disappointed. I offered the seller $4000 (he's asking $7000, 116k miles), and left him my phone number. Finding a good benz is Mission: Impossible, but I still love my 300E Thanks again, Sam

One more difference, the coupe has a slightly smaller turning circle (11.0m vs 11.3m), probably because of the shorter wheelbase & overall length.
Still interested to hear why 300E was said to be more refined a few responses back... but no doubt, both are great rides ! |

I love my CE. You hardly ever see another on the road. It's a pillarless coupe. When I lower all the windows and go for a drive I think I'm in heaven.

I'm with Jorg. I have an 88 300ce, signal red, freshly repainted courtesy of my son's accident last year. It can cruise forever, & looks fantastic because there are so few around. A great ride & good investment.
