My 1991 560 SEL's right rear window stopped going up and down today. I can hear the mechanism going up and down, but the glass stays down, so I think it's out of its bracket or the backet is broken.

The real problem is: how do I get the door liner off to look at what's going on inside? There's a small screw at the bottom of the door, two large screws holding the arm rest on, two screws holding the lock receptacle, and that's all I can find. But the door liner doesn't budge when these screws are removed. What's the trick to getting the door opened up?

Newr, thanks very much for the link! That is just what I was looking for.

A follow-up. With the excellent information contained in the thread above I was able to open the door liner with minimal damage to the car or myself and found the problem, a broken "window regulator", which is a very inexpensive item. I should be able to have this fixed in the next few days at quite a money savings. Thanks again, Newr, for the link and to all who gave such helpful information.
