Do the new S-Class cars have Dual Pane Glass?
Do the new S-Class cars have Dual Pane Glass like the 140 series do?

I read somewhere that the dual pane glass was discontinued to lower vehicle weight.

My understanding is that the w140 is the ONLY (production) car ever to have double paned glass.

Nope, I don't believe the new S class does.
I wouldn't buy the current generation S class. It's proportions were so small that Mercedes had to go back to the old W140 chassis on which to base the current Maybach. My buddy who works at one of the local MB dealers tells me that the next generation S class will be much bigger than the current one. It seems MB might have learned their lesson.

I'am sure the double glass was discontinued in 2000 with the body change-over.Ron

No the W220's do not have double glass. The W220 isn't much smaller then the W140. I rather park a W220 in a tight spot, their a little more user freindly around town.

The 220s are 203 inches long - right between the SWB (201) and the LWB (205) 140. It sort of looks like they planned that. The 220 is about an inch narrower in width and curb weight is down about 300 pounds - V8 versus V8. I think the new one looks smaller than it is because it looks like a C-class - which to me was not a wise move.

Thanks for the replies. Someone had asked me about it and I wasn't for sure but I thought that the W140 was the only model with the dual pane glass.
As long as my S350 runs I plan to keep driving it. And probably when it quits I will re-power it. I'd like to get that 1,000,000 kilometer badge!
