Bad Water Pump? This is your goal...

Can you tell what's missing in the photo below?

Why, that dang water pump is missing, of course!

Feels good when you get to this point!

I found the top rear bolt to be the toughest, followed by the bottom rear. The easiest bolt was the bottom front; got it with an ordinary box-end 13mm wrench after removing the belt tensioner.

Rather than the FLXM13 from snap-on, I went to sears and got a 1/4 and 3/8 13mm swivel socket. You can buy about ten of these for what the snap-on tool costs.

congrats, looks like you're half way done! do you really need to take out the distributor cap? or is it just another repair?

I'm not sure if removing the cap is required, but it makes it easier to maneuver around the area.

I also removed my radiator, though I see you didn't remove yours. I can say that removing it took about 5 minutes and created way more room to work. In addition, by removing the radiator you spare it from potential damage, i.e. leaning on it and breaking the tiny plastic "nipple" from the cross-hose or possibly bumping into it with your ratchet. A new radiator ain't cheap...

I didn't remove my tensioner, just removed the big 19mm bolt on the front, then dropped it about 1/2 an inch which was plenty of room to get a straight shot to that lower front bolt with a 1/4" extension.
