diesel injection pump timing

does anybody know the distinguishing characteristics of an injection pump that is in time. the one i got is pulled out of a car and i dont know for sure that it was pulled at 45deg btdc. the injection pump has a spot on the splines wherer there is a tooth missing. does that have anything to do w/ it? im stuck w/ a chiltons manual and im stumped and i cant put it back in the car till i know for sure.

There are references in the diesel forum on where to set the missing tooth on the spline when you put the pump back in the vehicle. Do a search on injection pumps. Or, post on the diesel forum. There are folks there that have done this several times. I am not positive of the procedure so I don't wish to give you advice that is not spot on.
