Just purchased an 84 380 SE, it seems that whenever I open the door and sit in the car, I hear a tic-tock sound coming from behind the glove box, it sometimes lasts a few minutes, even after I start and drive the car. I also hear the sound when I open the hood, but then it only last for a few seconds. I have a hunch it could be from the alarm system. I did notice under the hood that there are two wires cut that lead to a speaker looking device on the passenger side fender. Thanks
BTW, this is my first Benz purchase, and I am already in love, What a Car!

I have an 85 380SE with no alarm, but I do have the tick-tock noise. It is strange. It starts up and quits and starts up again, with no rhyme or reason that I can estimate.

I am DYING to know what the hell that noise is myself.

TICK-tock

Y'all don't happen to belong to the "Capt. Hook" family, do ya.

I had a similar sound with my non-mertz auto and it was the ABS system pressurizing, although this wouldn't account for the sound prior to inserting the key into the ignition. All my cars are old and they all make noise - I love em...

My 85 380SE makes noises on the right side behind the glovebox when I start it up. It sounds like the ventilation system to me. A possibity is it checks the vent positions for airflow when you start up.

That is not the noise. It does it with the key out of the ignition.

I have no idea what that ticking is... However, welcome to the "Yacht Club". Nothing cruises like a S Class Mercedes.
