When trying to open the sunroof you can hear the motor running ( I tightened the clutch in the trunk) and can hear what sounds like a tray retracting in the headliner but the actual sunroof does not move, when pushing the button to close you hear it closing but actual sunroof or sunroof liner moves, you can push up the sunroof from inside, before I start tearing out the headliner can anyone tell me what this could be ? thanks in advance

It sounds like the sunroof tray is partially disconnected from the sunroof. I had the misfortune of taking mine apart (87300E) a few years ago. My cable had jammed open and had to be replaced. You can pop the liner out without getting into too many problems if you are carefull. The liner at the front of the roof is held to the sunroof by about 5 plastic grommets. They just pry out. At this point, bow the center down and pull it forward and out and take a look at your tray.

I played with mine for a few months one summer after replacing the cable. I came to the conclusion that the tray wears at critical points over the years and it takes more than just a casual adjustment to get it closing nicely again (once you reconnect the tray to the roof) after it stops working the first time.
